Fellowships for the Absorption of New Faculty
Allon Fellowships for Outstanding Young Researchers
The Allon Fellowship program is named after the late Yigal Allon, who was a Minister of Education and a Chairman of the Council of Higher Education, and its original intent was to enable universities to absorb outstanding young researchers. The Allon Fellowships in fact turned into prizes for excellence among the best candidates for absorption in the staffs of the higher education system. The program is competitive and is based on personal excellence, without setting a quota for any university or for any field. Approximately 20 new fellowships are awarded each year.
The universities undertake to hire the fellow at the end of three years of the fellowship and to include the funding for his position in its regular budget, thus promising the winner of the fellowship a position in the Israeli university system. The size of the fellowship is the cost of the position at the university where he or she is working (generally at the level of lecturer or senior lecturer). In addition the fellow receives a one-time grant for the purchase of equipment.

“Maof” Fellowships for Outstanding Arab Lecturers
In 1995 the PBC decided to create a special program, in conjunction with the Kahanoff Foundation, whose aim was to encourage the hiring of outstanding Arab lecturers. This program is funded by PBC and the Kahanoff Foundation (in equal parts) and distributes 4 to 6 three-year fellowships each term. The fellowship is intended for outstanding young Arab researchers, both from the universities and from publicly-funded non-university institutions. The fellows are chosen by a committee appointed by the Chairman of the PBC, and they are appointed at the level of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor as the first appointment in a full-time position. The fellowships are awarded for three consecutive years and the size of the fellowship is the average cost for an academic faculty member, at the corresponding level (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor); in addition the fellows receive a one-time grant for the purchase of equipment.
The institution undertakes to include funding for the position of the fellowship winner in its regular budget at the end of the three-year fellowship.

The Guastella Fellowship for Promoting Science and Technology Teaching in Universities – Faculty
An additional fruitful cooperation with the Sacta-Rashi Foundation led to the establishment of a program to promote the teaching of science and technology. The aim of the program is to promote research and development in the field of science teaching in Israel and to make a contribution toward the establishment or the strengthening of departments for the teaching of science and technology in the universities. The program’s main idea is the training of staff who will apply their energies and resources, especially in peripheral communities, thus enriching the science-technology potential in these areas.
The program participates in the funding of the cost of faculty positions for staff who will work to develop the field of science and technology teaching in the universities for a period of three years. The applicants are outstanding senior faculty members with doctorates in science teaching who have experience working in science, education and teaching. Receipt of a fellowship is contingent on the university undertaking to hire the fellow at the end of the period on a permanent basis. For additional information please consult the Rector’s Office.
