Post-Doctoral Fellowship

Post-Doctoral Fellowships

Post-Doctorates are PhD’s who are training in the first years after earning their degree in established research areas in an institution other than the one where they completed their studies. This type of training in research is widely accepted in the world and has become essential to modern research, especially in everything related to the experimental sciences.
The PBC decided in 1991 to set up a fellowship program, initially for three years, with the aim of increasing the number of post-doctorates, particularly from abroad, in research groups in the universities. The fellowship is awarded for a year with the possibility of extending it for an additional year and using it, chiefly, as a stipend for a living allowance according to the accepted standards at each university.
The PBC determined the number of fellowships for each institution, based on various parameters, with the aim of encouraging those institutions where the number of post-doctorates is relatively small at this time. Every institution chooses its fellows according to the entrance criteria for the program, which are detailed in the set of rules prepared by the PBC. In light of the success of the program, from the point of view of significantly increasing the number of post-doctorates in the universities, it was decided to continue the program after the end of the first three years. In recent years about 155 fellowships have been granted each year. The program will continue in its present format until the end of the 2005/06 academic year. For additional information please consult the person at the university who is responsible for Student Aid/Scholarships or the Rector’s Office.

"Bichura" Fellowships

This program is intended for Israeli post-doctorates who are doing their post-doctoral training in leading universities abroad in the fields of innovative science, with the intention of joining Israeli university faculties at the end of their training.  The program chooses 5-6 post-doctorates every year. For additional information please consult the person at the university who is responsible for Student Aid/Scholarships or the Rector’s Office.
